Is Heyward the word?

On opening day, a huge prospect for the Braves named Jason Heyward hammered a 3-run homer off none other than Mr. Carlos Zambrano (the Cubs ended up loosing 16-5 :), and Zambrano left after 1.1 innings - 8 earned runs). After slumping later this week, he doubled and went 2-4 yesterday. SI KIDS puts him as #1 on the star list, ESPN ranks him as the #1 prospect for 2010, SI as #2 (Strausburg #1). He's hitting 300. with 2 HR, and he's yet to make an error. I think this guy could be a star...
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Anyone see Mark Buhrle's play on opening day? Look it up. It's amazing. Sadly, the White Sox are not amazing this year. The White Sox have to really pick up the pace to make the playoffs, because if they don't beat the already red-hot Twins, they will have to fight the Rays, Red Sox, Mariners, Angels, and Yankees for Wild Card. The Brewers are doing OK. Gallardo and Hoffman are not. 2 days ago Hoffman blew it with a 2-2 count with 2 out's in the 9th, and yesterday he gave up 3 in the 9th, the 3rd time out of 4 appearances this year he's given up runs. I think Hoffman, even though he is a legend, is washed up now. Coffey should take over at closer. But, Hoffman is only 7 away from 600, and you can't pull him now.
Next week or 2, I'll have another post.

Opening Day 2010

Every 2 weeks or so, I'll be putting out a blog post about major league baseball. Today's topic is opening day.
The first game of 2010 is Sunday night, as the Red Sox and the Yankees battle. I think this is going to be awesome, because both are division contenders, they are huge rivals, and C.C. Sabathia vs Josh Beckett is an awesome match up. In the NL, the Phillies should have no problem taking down the Nats. The Brewers play the Rockies. I think the Rockies might be a sleeper this year. Tulowitzki is underated, and Todd Helton is always hot at the beginning of the year. The Cubs play the Atlanta Braves, and I think that the Braves could win the Wild Card. Prospect Tommy Hanson could help power the Braves to the playoffs. The Cubs have new pitcher Carlos Silva and new outfielder Marlon Byrd, but both of them suck. Newsflash - the Cubs do too. The White Sox start their season out vs the Indians. Buehrle is a great pitcher but he collapsed at the end of last year. I think Sox fans should be really excited about Peavy. He has a devastating slider and could be a huge hit in Chicago.
Thats all for now.
